Workaway is the site I use to find work exchanges. They have tons of great information that will answer all of the newbie questions. I have had great experiences and met really interesting people through workaway. Read the host’s listings very carefully and read the feedback as a part of your pre-trip research. My workaway profile
Trusted Housesitters is a global membership service that connects owners with verified house and pet sitters. The company was founded in Brighton in 2010, and has already facilitated over 10 million nights of successful pet sits all over the world. I am just starting to use TH. Trusted House Sitter profile
Rome2Rio has been a reliable resource for getting from point A to point B for all of the countries I have travel in. It has been surprising how accurate their information is for small, remote locations. Sometimes, I use them to find the local bus services. I don’t use this site (or App) for accurate info about flights. It will show what is generally available but I recommend Google Travel as a first stop for flight information.
Kiva uses crowdfunded microloans as a force for good, creating a space where people can have one-to-one impact, and together, expand financial access for all. I am inspired by how much can be accomplished through this form of funding. The site provides complete metrics so it is easy to following the progress and results of the loan.
Kiva is related to travel because it is a way to connect with regions I am traveling in on an economic level. For example, Friendship Bridge provides business coaching and helps local weaver apply for funding for projects in Guatemala. I can search on the loans they are associated with and know they are working for sustainable change.
